Madden 13: Top 5 Features Reviewed

I don't know about you, but there are 5 huge gameplay improvements that I am looking forward to seeing in Madden 13. I know that we're all looking forward to the Infinity Engine, which for me, is the sole reason I waited for Madden, and didn't buy NCAA 13.

Surprising, right?

I actually haven't purchased Madden for the past 2 years, and this is the first football game I have been excited for since NFL 2K5. With all of that being said, we cannot overlook the other gameplay improvements that EA has included in Madden 13. Some of which, were included in NCAA 13 as well. Nevertheless, I want to talk about the 5 major improvements that I'm looking forward to in Madden 13.

Today, I will be talking about:
  1. Infinity Engine.
  2. Pass Trajectories.
  3. Read and React Defense.
  4. Pass Ready System.
  5. Play Action Improvements.
If you have already read about all of this before, then you're probably going to want to go straight to the Madden 13 Review site here: http://www.madden13review.com/ to checkout my full review of this year's game. Let's go ahead and look at the 5 gameplay improvements in this year's game right now.

#1. Infinity Engine.

Infinity Engine is EA's version of the Natural Motion engine put out by Euphoria. Just to be clear, as far as I know, this is all EA's code. If you've played Backbreaker, then you know how powerful a physics-based football game can be. For the first time ever, and thanks to the EA developers, we finally have a football game that is not only physics-based, but also has great features.

#2. Pass Trajectories.

We have all been complaining about those linebackers that can jump 50-feet in the air to pick the ball off. I know that I have personally thrown a number of passes where my WR was at least 30 yards down the field, and somehow, the linebacker managed to jump up high enough to pick the ball off. Yeah. Not going to happen.

EA has finally fixed superman linebackers by implementing a new pass trajectory system. Not only can you throw the ball high or low, but this year, you can throw the ball anywhere in between. And of course, the better your quarterback, the more accurately he will place the ball on the trajectory that you wanted it to be placed.

#3. Read and React Defense.

Have you ever had a defender mirror your receivers route, pick the ball off, and take one back to the house for a touchdown? Of course you have. Sim Standard and Regular Dave have been preaching this problem for years. Finally, EA has come up with a solution: read and react defense.

What is read and react defense? Read and react defense will only allow your computer-controlled defender make a move on the receiver, only once he has seen what the receiver has done. Of course, some defenders are better than others, and just as we see in real life, we will still see defenders jump routes from time to time. It just won't occur as often as it did in years past.

#4. Pass Ready System.

Gone are the days of throwing the ball to a receiver that is not paying attention. With the pass-ready system, a receiver will have a greater chance of catching the ball only once his icon is lit up, which indicates that he is looking back for the ball, and ready to receive the pass.

#5. Play Action Passing Adjustments.

This year, you will be able to hand the ball off to the running back, on a play action pass. Alternatively, if you'd like to opt out to a passing play, you'll be able to prevent the fake handoff completely, and drop back for a pass. This is especially useful, and will allowed skilled players to quickly read the defense, and make adjustments on the fly.

Final Thoughts on Madden 13.

With the Madden 13 demo to be released tomorrow, this is predicted to be the best Madden game of all time. But will it be? Only time will tell. Still, I'm looking forward to the new gameplay features: Infinity Engine, pass trajectories, read and react defense, pass ready system, along with the play action improvements that EA has included in this year's game.
